APIACEAE Heracleum lanatum Michx.
Plants 1.5-2.5 m. tall, with 3-5 inflorescences. There
is a basal leaf and one or two cauline leaves before
the leaves of the inflorescence; the leaf pressed is the
lowest cauline one. Inflorescences flat-topped, the
terminal ones past flowering, the lateral ones in full
bloom.
Common in open to partly shaded former pasture along
Spring Creek, near Pine River floodplain, with Thalictrum
dasycarpum, Poa pratensis, Teucrium canadense, Quercus
macrocarpa, Ulmus americana.
