APIACEAE Heracleum lanatum Michx.
Plants 1.5-2.5 jji. tall, with 3-5 inflorescences; basal
leaf and one or two cauline ones before the leaves of
the inflorescence; stems still green but all cauline leaves
have withered. Except for the most vigorous plants,
fruit has developed only on the terminal inflorescence.
Common in open to partly shaded former pasture along
Spring Creek, near Pine River floodplain, with Thalictrum
dasycarpum, Poa pratensis, Teucrium canadense, Quercus
macrocarpa. Ulmus americana.
WISCONSIN: Richland Co., 3 miles SE of Richland Center.
