In clay soil (Tropic Shale) on gentle SE-facing slope with Atriplex,
Erioqonum & Androstephium. Acaulescent perennials; root
crowns subterranean, topped by a short pseudoscape; herbage
(especially petioles) obscurely viscid; involucels dimidiate, the
green bracts fused basally & laterally; petals purple when fresh;
filaments of stamens & often the anthers purplish; pollen white.
