FLORA OF NEW" MEXICO 2738 Mirabilis oxybaphoides Gray DONA ANA CO., S end of Organ Mountains in narrow defile at the mouth of Long Canyon, these plants getting only about 2-3 hours of sun per day. Stems prostrate, to 2 m. long, from a thick spongy root about 4 cm. thick (and which was heavily grub-infested); flowers pale pink to lavender-pink, slightly zygomorphic, the style and filaments de- clined; filaments and style the same color as the perianth; 3 flowers per involucre, only one blooming at a time; lobes of the involucre loosely clasping the anthocarps.
