Liebre Mountains Region: About the confluence of Bear Canyon and
Pine Canyon, between the southern flank of Liebre Mountain and
northern flank of Red Rock Mountain, southwest of Gillette Mine.
Near 34° 40’ 20”N 118° 39’ 30”W. T7N R17W E 1/2 NE 1/4 NW
1/4 sec. 23. Elev. 2840 - 3000 Feet
Steep-sided, rocky canyon of weathered gneiss, outcrops and loose
scree deposits common on xeric slopqj. canyon bottoms with
benches of boulders, gravel, and sand of granite and gneiss.
Xeric slopes with low scrub of Salvia apiana, Eriogonum
fasciculatum polifolium, Salvia mellifera, Adenostoma fasciculatum,
and Yucca whipplei; mesic slopes with open chaparral of
Cercocarpus betuloides, Ericameria linearifolia, Arctostaphylos
glauca, Aesculus californica, Quercus wislizeni, Quercus chrysolepis,
and Rhamnus ilicifolia; riparian area with well developed woodland
of Platanus racemosa, Salix lasiolepis, and Salix laevigata.
Annual, local in shade on rocky slope.
