Heikens Spring. Spring coming out of the
base of a gravelly/sandy slcpe on a terrace
west of the Little Sioux River. The spring
is in a pasture and on an east-facing
slcpe. The spring originates from Storden
loam, 15-20% slopes, moderately eroded
(StE2), a Typic Udorthent. The site is
north of a paved road and on the Des Moines
Lobe.
1000+ plants occur in the spring and the
brook that it forms. There is lots of tufa
present in the spring and brook. A
disturbed fen occurs north of the spring,
but B. erecta was not found there. 300+ B.
erecta occur in a spring-fed ditch just
north of the road.
