Herbs to 1ft tall, locally abundant, flowers pale purple.
Growing in an open, dry forest, burned every two years or so,
in quartz sand & gravel (Evesboro sand, 0-5% slopes; mesic,
coated Lamellic Quartzipsamments). Growing with Agalinis
setacea, Andropogon virginicus, Antennaria sp., Aristida
longespica var. geniculata, Aureolaría pedicularia var.
pedicularia, Baptisia tinctoria, Carex pensylvanica,
Chamaecrista nictitans, Chrysopsis mariana, Cladonia spp.,
Comptonia peregrina, Conyza canadensis, Danthonia spicata
(rare), Desmodium paniculatum, Dichanthelium
sphaerocarpon, Eragrostis spectabilis, Gaylussacia dumosa,
Gnaphalium obtusifolium (=Pseudognaphalium obtusifolium),
Helianthemum spp., Hieracium venosum (?), Hypericum
gentianoides, Ionactus (Aster) linariifolius, Juncus tenuis,
Lespedeza cuneata, L. hirta, L. intermedia, L. hirta x
intermedia (=Lespedeza x nuttallii), L. repens, Liatris
graminifolia (=L. pilosa), Linaria canadensis, Panicum
virgatum (rare), Pinus echinata, P. rigida, P. strobus (rare),
Polygonella articulata, Quercus alba, Q. montana, Q. stellata
(rare), Q. velutina, Schizachyrium scoparium, Smilax glauca,
Solidago bicolor, S. erecta, Symphyotrichum patens (=Aster
patens'), Tephrosia virginica, Trichostema dichotomum,
Tridensflavus & Vaccinium pallidum. On the grounds of the
Rutgers University Pinelands Field Station, within 400ft of
the W. side of New Lisbon - Four Mile Road (Rt. 646), about
1. Imi N. of the intersection with routes 70 & 72. Burlington
Co. Elev. about 110ft. All plants collected within a few
hundred feet of this point: 39° 54' 58.7"N, 74° 35' 51.4"W.
