03373087 03373087 *>\ Ada Hayden Herbarium Iowa State University Flora of Iowa Diodia teres Walter Wapello County: T71N R13W Section 31 SW4 NE4 NW4 NE4 UTM (15T, NAD27): 550809 East, 4528961 North Pioneer Ridge Nature Area is about 6 miles south of Ottumwa. An approximately 2 acre, below average quality dry-mesic tallgrass prairie (it may have been crop ground at one time) occurs southeast of a gravel parking lot and south of 20th Street. The prairie is on a moderate, east/southeast-facing slope. The soil at the collection site is mapped as Galland loam, 14 to 18 percent slopes, moderately eroded (594E2), an Aquic Hapludalf. Pioneer Ridge Nature Area is on the Southern Iowa Drift Plain. Diodia teres is locally common in the prairie. Pale lavender flowers occur in the upper 1 to 3 axils, with fruits below. Diodia teres is locally dominant on very eroded, sparsely vegetated, light reddish brown soil. It is associated with Ambrosia artemisiifolia. Andropaon virainicus. Aster ericoides. Carex hirsutella. Chamaecrista fasciculata. Eupatorium altissimum. Paspalum setaceum. Poa compressa. Prunella vulgaris. Pycnanthemum pilosum. Solidaao nemoralis and Tridens flavus. Mark J.
