Habitat

Description
Strict shrub, stem 1 inch thick, 3 to 15 ft high, terete, unbranched; old wood odorless, bitter, pale white, rather hard and strong; bark yellowish brown, smooth; leaves mainly towards the top, ascending, chartaceous, flat, deep green and sublucid above, much paler green beneath, the terete, green, much ascending petioles swollen at both ends; inflorescence from the uppermost leaf axils, varying from a few inches to a foot in length, ascending, sparingly branched, yellowish green, the pedicels and odorless flowers pale yellow; fruits 3-parted, the 3 cells dehiscing along the upper suture, 1-seeded, greenish or yellowish brown, persistent.
