Curator of the Herbarium

Dear Dr. Small:
In his Manual of the Flora of the Rocky Mountains, Dr.
Bydberg attributes Asclepias cryptoceras to California. If
I may trouble you would you be so kind as to see if your
herbarium contains a specimen from California. If so, I
should be glad to have the locality, collector and date,
I shall be extremely obliged for your interest.
I might say that Asclepias cryptoceras has been;collected
at Summit station, Owens Yalley^by W. H. Shockley and also
by M. B. Jones• Summit station is, however, not in Calif-
ornia, although authors have so assumed. It is a few miles
over the California line in Mineral County, Nevada, and
now known as Ht. Montgomery station.
A copy of your new Manual of the Southeastern Flora has
just been received. I wish to offer congratulations on
| bringing to a close so vast a work. At your home, on
| Christmas Day in 1925, you showed me some of the illustra-
tions that were to be used. So I am looking at them now
with an especial interest. They will, be thought most help-
ful to all users of the book,; perhaps more especially in
Carex where each section is illustrated.
With pleasant remembrances,
* Yours sincerely,
W. L. Jepson
