NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN
Annotation by Marc Stadler, Dortmund, Germany, March 2010
Annulohypoxylon cf. minutellum (Syd. & P. Syd.) Y.M. Ju, J.D. Rogers
& H.M. Hsieh - not type specimen, mixed with H. fuscum (Pers.) Fr.
USA, South Carolina, Aiken, 1921, Ravenel Fungi Americani Exsiccati
No. 184 as H. fuscum
Glomerate stromata as in H. fuscum in both collections. The sample from
Alnus is indeed H. fuscum, bt the sampe from Quercus is a different fungus
!
HPLC (No. 18) revealed multiformin type azaphilones and BNT. Few
ascospores found; morphology and size in the range of A. minutellum,
rather than A. cohaerens. I figure this could be the frst record of this
species for USA, but it has aleady been reported from the neotropics.
