Growing in a section of pine savanna cleared of pines long ago (it would have had Pinus palustris), burned about two months earlier, in loamy soil (Bibb silt-loam, 0-2% slopes; coarse-loamy, siliceous, active, acid, thermic Typic Fluvaquents). Growing with Aletris farinosa, Andropogon gyrans, A. virginicus, Aronia arbutifolia, Asclepias michauxii, Aster adnatus, A. dumosus, Calopogon oklahomensis, Carphephorus odoratissimus, Ceanothus americanus, Chaptalia tomentosa, Cirsium horridulum, Ctenium aromaticum, Desmodium ciliare, D. marilandicum, Dichanthelium aciculare, D. strigosum, Diospyros virginiana, Drosera brevifolia, Erigeron strigosus, Eryngium yuccifolium, Eupatorium rotundifolium var. ovatum, Euphorbia curtissii, Fimbristylis puberula, Gaylussacia sp. (mosieri?), Helianthus angustifolius, H. heterophyllus, H. radula, Hibiscus aculealus, Hypoxis hirsuta, Ilex glabra, Lachnocaulon anceps, Lespedeza capitata, L. cuneata, Linaria floridana, Mimosa microphylla, Myrica cerifera, Orbexilum simplex, Oxalis dillenii, Panicum capillare, Pedicularis canadensis, Penstemon australis, Pityopsis graminifolia, Plantago virginica, Polygala incamata, Pteridium aquilinum, Quercus falcata, Q. marilandica (rare), Rhexia nashii, Rhus copallinum, Rubus trivialis, Rudbeckia hirta, Schizachyrium scoparium, S. tenerum, Scleria ciliata var. ciliata, Sisyrinchium sp.
