    Oenothera biennis L.

3982. Oenothera biennis(?).- The common weedy species in
this part of the country. It has been divided into several
species bjj splitters, but all I have seen could easily pass
for one. ^On hot summer days the flowers do not seem to open
until late at night, or possibly early morning, but in cool
cloudy weather they may be open most of the day. The style
is shorter than the stamens and closely surrounded by them,
and the plant may be self-pollinated. No insect visitors
have been observed.
