A sandy pasture (owned by Howard Ciha) is approximately 5.5 miles
east/northeast of Solon. It is a mixture of open sand prairie, scattered oaks,
woods and shallow marshes. The soil here is Chelsea loamy fine sand (63),
an Alfic Udipsamment. The pasture is on the Southern Iowa Drift Plain.
Phlox bifida is infrequent on a sand prairie slope southwest of the
southernmost marsh, A1000+ genets occur north and west of the slope. The
corollas are pale to medium blue-violet. Phlox bifida is associated with Achillea
millefolium. Aquileaia canadensis and Taraxacum officinale.
