state line, ca 10 air miles north of Evanston.
South-facing slopes of brownish shale-clay with surface layer
of brownish sandstone rocks and gravel in Artemisia
tridentata-Elymus spicatus community with scattered
Juniperus osteosperma.
Common on semi-bare slopes. Most plants past flowering.
Population estimated at 50,000-70,000.
Corollas white, becoming tinged with lavender with age
(especially on the tube). Limb typically 15-17 mm wide.
Leaves widest at base, taper to sharp tip & have long hairs on
margins. Calyx with long-spreading hairs and eglandular.
Very fragrant.
