Dr. N.L.Britton,
Dear Sir;_
I am sending you today^under,separate,pover,
some specimens of the procumbent form of Ludwigia polycarpa,
concerning which I wnote you some time ago. These are not as
distinctive and typical specimens of this particular form oftthe
plant,as I might wish but they will give you some idea of the
variation from type# I will try to get you some fresh specimens
of this a little later# The plant is found in very similaar
localities to those of the type,is much more branched and
zo those or z
many /fof the^divergent branches bear rootlets. These specimsns
were secured along the edge of a "slough” on September 6 th#
I have since found the same form in several localities along
a small stream near here# Please let me know what you think
of "Ludwigia polycarpa &eoumbens,f#
A friend of mine just back from western Kansas brought me
some very interesting forms of Katibida columnaris in which all
the flowers were ligulate (those of the cone as well as the rays)
-Another interesting (to us ) find here recently was the grass
Scolochloa festucacea - I think t hat this is its most southern
station in the U.S. Am I right ?
Hoping to hear from you soon I remain
Yours very truly
