56.9” W. Long. T. 6N, R. 3E, NE1/2, NW1/4, SW/4,
NW1/4 Sect. 34 Illinois Route 185 (FAP 777), west
side, 0.1 mile south of Little Hickory Creek bridge,
about 10.4 miles due east-southeast of Vandalia.
Brownstown 7.5 minute U.S.G.S. quadrangle.
Elevation 570-580 feet. Disturbed sandy clay-loam with
humus over soft to hard shales and sandstone and
bituminous coal.
Dry-mesic upland forest and open roadside bank and
drainage, dominated by Quercus spp., Carya ovata,
Celtis occidentalism Ostrya, Sassafras,
Symphoricarpos, Campsis, Elymus. Infrequent local
erect herb 1 meter tall, sepals salmon-pink to red; in
wet runoff drainage ditch.
