powerline corridor on Cuesta Ridge road and
6.7 miles -from junction with US Rte 101. Steep N-facinq
slope under canopy of mixed evergreen -forest burned in the
Las Pi litas -fire of June-July 1985. Vigorous resprout I nq by
Quercus chrysolep i s. Li thocarpus densi f1 orus and
Umbel 1 ul ar-i a californica. Deep loose soil derived from
decomposing Monterey shale. 2620-2640 ft. elevation.
Flowers red or reddish purple; herbage bright green.
Stems slimy-glandular. Abundant on steep shaded slopes,
occasional near roadside. Locally dominant in
burned-over areas where it was absent before the fire.
