Plants in Cultivation, California, U.S.A.
Caryophyllaceae
Silene cf. corrugata Ball
Cultivated in Ontario, San Bernardino County,
California, by the collector.
Original source information: MOROCCO: seeds
obtained from a recently collected herbarium specimen
with numerous loose seeds; some taken to test viability.
Seeds sown 18 March 1990 in sandy soil adjacent to
my driveway. Annual; inflorescence slightly glandular;
petals soft pink, unfurling longitudinally at dusk and
scrolling back up with morning sunlight. A very
charming plant which, regrettably, has weedy tendencies
and is now coming up for several meters each way from
the original site of introduction, and in pavement cracks. I
have already begun the process of trying to extirpate it
from the yard.
