There is a specmen of this plant in Walter’s Herbarium,
marked “ Silene an Virginiea,” evidently a type of his description,
whiéh fits it exactly. In the Linnaean Herbarium there is also a
specimen of it marked Virginiea, by Linnaeus, but pinned fàst
to the àheet is another bearing a good specimen marked only
'• K,” indicating that it was received from Kalm, of the 5. Vir-
of the description ‘in Species Plantarum, 419, Linnaeus
noi distinguish the two species.
