Plants of U.S.A.
CARYOPHYLLACEAE Paronychia canadensis (L.) Wood
Dense small patches a few square dm. in size, on bare
soil around rock outcrops, also found in adjacent thicker

layfer of leaves. These latter plants are darker green,
with larger leaves, and less mature.
Tiny opening with rock outcrops (probably calcareous)
on top of rocky ridge, thin ungrazed woods of Quercus
alba, Q. macrocarpa, Carya ovata, with Pteridium
aquilinum, Rhus aromatica ( ! ! ), a few remnant prairie
plants such as Amorpha canescens, Coreopsis palmata.
