    Mixed conifer/hardwood forest. Pinus strobus, Tsuga canandensis, Betula sp., Populus grandidentata. Gregarious. On soil.

  • Description

    Pileus 4.5-7 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, subtomentose, orange, rarely with some white and pale bittersweet orange at margin, to orange brown with sterile margin when young, with white flesh, hardly with a hint of pale pinkish before changing to fuscous throughout. Tubes adnexed yellowish white to avellaneous, staining brown to dark brown. Stipe 7-10 cm long, 10-15 mm broad, equal to subclavate, dry, white with black scabers, not densely packed but conspicuous when young, with interior white then fuscous, only one a speck of blue green in base.
