Steep gravel slides along creek below
Thorndike Spring. Hundreds of plants in patches
on dry scree slope. Mid-bloom; hundreds of
plants. Corolla magenta, paler or yellowish on
proximal and lower (ventral) parts of tube-throat
exterior; throat floor yellow with scattered
small reddish dots, a red-purple midvein
radiating onto base of each lobe of limb, a
red-purple blotch proximal to each of the two
sinuses separating the two upper lobes from the
three lower; often with additional red-purple
markings and vague veining around mouth, these
especially dense or even confluent at periphery
of yellow area.
