right-of-way and active railroad tracks, east side of
town, south side of U.S. Route 30. Waterman 7.5 min.
quadrangle. Elevation about 800 feet. Alkaline, moist to
wet clay - loam; possibly original ground surface.
Mesic to wet prairie remnant; drier ridge with
Oenothera, Cirsium, Asclepias syriaca, Euphorbia
corollata, Ratibida, Silphium. Flowers yellow and
orange, snapdragon-like, spurs pointed downward;
occasional perennial herb, somewhat rhizomatous,
stems 0.2-0.4 meter tall.
