the 7124-ft summit. T4N R11W section 33; near
34°22'53"N 118°02,13MW; elevation ca. 6840-6920 feet.
Coniferous forest dominated by Pinus lamberliana, P.
jeffreyi, and Abies concolor, understory relatively open, or with
occasional patches of shrubs including Quercus chrysolepis,
Ceanothus leucodermis, Rhamnus californica (s.l.), or with
lower-statured scattered Artemisia tridentatum and
Chrysolhwnnus nauseosus.
Locally uncommon, scattered annual on loose, gravelly
granite slope. Stems and leaves succulent; adaxial surface of
leaves medium green; stems dull purplish-red, the calyces and
abaxial leaf surfaces often similarly suffused. Corolla limb
strongly 2-lipped with a dorsiventrally compressed throat; limb
very pale purple except few the distal tips of the 2 major lower
lobes, which are rich purple; lower center corolla lobe and
bottom erf- corolla tube strongly laterally compressed, forming a
keel, the tip of which barely protrudes from between the lower
lateral lobes; upper lip lighter toward the throat (almost cream-
white) with fine, dull-violet speckling.
