Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the city of Guayaquil in Guayas, Ecuador, taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "vicinity" in the locality description. Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate the city of Guayaquil. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the city. Because the center of the nearest named place, the city of Duran, is closer to the center of Guayaquil than the linear extent of Guayaquil itself, followed Case B of "Near a Named Place" of the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the approximate linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Guayaquil (spatial extent provided by Google Maps). Input coordinates, linear extent (15300.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
