Habitat
Hills with tropical evergreen forest, somewhat disturbed. In open pasture. Common in area, but no S. crinitum Lam.

Description
Small tree 5 m. tall, 10 cm. in diam., with whorled branching. Corolla appears to be open all day, deep purple-violet at first, fading to nearly white, sometimes both colors in same inflorescence, more commonly only one open at a time. Fruit green, hanging; calyx strongly swollen at base. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
