RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Flora of Los Angeles County, California, U.S.A. Boraginaceae Plagiobothrys acanthocarpus (Piper) l.MJohnston SANTA CATALINA ISLAND: SW part of the island in the vicinity of Cactus Peak (1560 ft); 1200 m ESE of Cactus Peak summit; SE slope of 1528-foot peak, not far below its summit; Santa Catalina South USGS 7.5' quad- near 33°20'01"N 118°25'57"W; ca 1495 feet elevation. Annual, locally abundant in a very localized patch (perhaps 3 x 3 m) on cobbly clay soil. Corolla 2-3 mm broad, white with yellow throat; nutlets 4, pricldey; prickles to 0.75 mm long, these with spreading to mostly retrorse barbs. Not seen elsewhere in vicinity.
