Red sandy shaly soil, with Populus, Rhamnus betulaefolia var obovata, Shepherdia, Pinus edulis, Amelanchier, Ephedra, Opuntia, Arctostaphylos, Stanleya, Asclepias, Penstemon, Salix exigua.
