RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Flora of Los Angeles County, California, USA BORAGINACEAE Amsinckia menziesii (Lehm.) Nelson & J. F. Macbride var. intermedia (Fischer & C. Meyer) Ganders Liebre Mountains, Knapp Ranch area at upper end of Castaic Creek drainage in broad alluvial valley at head of Cienega Canyon, south of Liebre Mountain. From gate at old inholding boundary near spring area along Forest Service Road 7N22 down to beginning of extensive wetland south of the old dry pastures. Near 34°4r20”N, 118°39’55”W. T7N R17W NE 1/4 sec. 22. Elevation ca 3000 - 3280 ft. Broad alluvial valley grading gently to the SSE, sandy to sandy loam soils. Drier disturbed flats dominated by Eriogonum fasciculatum, Artemisia dracunculus, Rhus trilobata, and Corethrogyne filaginifolia. Spring areas with Baccharis salicifolia, Salix lasiolepis, S. laevigata, S. exigua, dense stands of Carex, Anemopsis califomica, Juncus mexicana in understory. Annual, flowers yellow-orange.
