Herbarium of U. C. Riverside (UCR) Plants of Riverside Co., California, USA Amsinckia menziesii (Lehm.) A. Nels. & J.F. Macbr. var. menziesii BOR The Badlands: hills and canyons west of Laborde Canyon, 1 mile northeast of Eden Hot Springs, SW of Beaumont (El Casco 7.5’ Q.: 33° 54'30"N, 117° 02'30"W; T3S R2W S13). Alt.: 610-671m/2000-2200ft. Steep hills and canyons in poorly consolidated silty sediments; burned (ca. 3 yrs. ago) chaparral with coastal sage and riparian patches, Yucca schidigera and Opuntia locally common. Very dry year (so far, driest since 1882) and few annuals present, except a thin cover of weedy grasses, many of those failing; shrubs mostly stressed. Uncommon annual on clay flats in south central part of section, with other herbs in shallow depression beside dirt road where water accumulates; fls. clear yellow. A.C.
