Amsinckia vermcoea Hook* &t Arc.
Much branched, stout glaucous annual; stems pinkish; homostylic;
corolla orange with red markings, 12-13 mm. broad; stamens
equal to style, not clustered. Common on extensive decomposed
shale outcrop on west side of canyon. 5.8 miles south of junction
with California Highway 33 (south end of Avenal), on road to
Avenal Creek, in Tar Canyon, Reef Ridge; altitude 1500 feet,
Kings County.
