t tprrf Mountains region: Fish Canyon just upstream from the
confluence with Castaic Creek. Near 34» 36' 16.6”N 118» 39'
29.3”W. T6N R17W SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec. 14. Elev. 1640 Feet.
Floodplain on flat valley bottom with gravelly benches of rocks
derived from sandstone, granite, gneiss, etc. Surrounding slopes
steep, mostly sedimentary and metasedimentary substrates. Area
burned in late August, 1997.
Vegetation on slopes formerly mostly scrub of Salvia leucophylla,
Salvia mellifera, Eriogonum fasciculatum, and Artemisia californica,
with riparian elements such as Platanus racemosa, Quercus agrifolia,
Salix lasiolepis, Salix laevigata, Salix exigua, Baccharis salicifolia,
and Populus fremontii developed along stream channels.
Annual, flowers white with very pale lavender flecks. Occasional.
