LIEBRE GULCH: NE side of the junction of Forest
Service Road 8N05 (descending into the gulch from the
Tumble Inn site) and 8N01 in the canyon bottom. USGS
7.5' Liebre Mtn Quadrangle; T7N R17W, SE/4 SE/4
NW/4 NW/4 Section 7; elevation ca 3265 feet.
Southerly, sunny scree slope of decomposed
sedimentary substrate.
Annual, locally scattered on slope; leaves dull green
with reddish spotting; stems reddish, aging gray and
ultimately exfoliating; buds and sepals rose-red; petals
white, or with a hint of pink; inflorescence arching with
terminal buds drooping. Very attractive.
