117. Cerastium nutans. Entièrement pubescente, tige droite striée dichotome; feuilles lancéolées aiguës: fleurs
droites, calice à folioles lancéoléxes obtuses, pétales plus longs du calice, capsules oblongues 10-dentées, 10-
nervées, penchées et arquées. En Pensylvanie.

This collections, supposedly from eastern Missouri and western Kentucky would then date from Rafinesque’s
sojourn in these parts, much later than the description of the plant. This specimen should not be considered a type on
the face of it, although considering the vicissitudes of Rafinesque’s herbarium, this should not be entirely out of
consideration. The plant belongs to what is currently considered to be Cerastium nutans Raf.	^	^ j
