C. S. Rafinesque. Précis des Découvertes et Travaux Somiologiques 36. 1814. The protologue in its entirety reads: 117. Cerastium nutans. Entièrement pubescente, tige droite striée dichotome; feuilles lancéolées aiguës: fleurs droites, calice à folioles lancéoléxes obtuses, pétales plus longs du calice, capsules oblongues 10-dentées, 10- nervées, penchées et arquées. En Pensylvanie. NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN 03163048 HERB. MUS. PARIS ÉTATS-UNIS. Missouri orient. etKentuky occident.' G. S. Rafinesque. This collections, supposedly from eastern Missouri and western Kentucky would then date from Rafinesque’s sojourn in these parts, much later than the description of the plant. This specimen should not be considered a type on the face of it, although considering the vicissitudes of Rafinesque’s herbarium, this should not be entirely out of consideration. The plant belongs to what is currently considered to be Cerastium nutans Raf. ^ ^ j 03163048
