NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN 03181727 Caulanthus major (Jones) Payson BIG ROCK CREEK CANYON: ca 120 m NNW of Icy Springs, around a stone building that has been gutted by fire (the Webber Cabin); Valyermo 7.5' USGS topo sheet; T3N R9W, NW/4 NW/4 NE/4 section 1; elevation ca. 5680 feet Vegetation dominated by woodland of Pinus jeffreyi, Pseudotsuga macrocarpa, Quercus chrysolepis, and scattered Calocedrus decurrens, Abies concolor, and Acer macrophyllum. Understory shrubs including Rhamnus californica, Ceanothus integerrimus, Fremontodendron californicum, Cercocarpus betuloides, Prunus virginiana, Ribes roezliiy and R. nevadense. Herbaceous perennial to ca 11 dm tall; glaucous; apparently glabrous except for a few long trichomes on the pedicels; scattered locally with Senecio ionophyllus on a ± northeasterly slope in decomposed granite.
