sect. 28. West side of IL Route 2, west side of Rock
River, 0.5 mile north of main entrance to Stronghold
and Blackhawk Presbytery and camp. Upper portion of
ridge just below The Castle, south of Mud Creek.
Elevation ca. 722-738 feet. Loam and humus on
dolomite talus.
Mesic slopes below cliffs, with Acer negundo, Acer
saccharum, Aquilegia canadensis, Isopyrum
bitematum, Quercus muhlenbergii, Q. rubra, Solidago
flexicaulis, Tilia americana, Ulmus americana. Flowers
pale lilac (pale purple), stamens pale yellow to pale lilac;
locally common fleshy erect annual herb 0.5 m tall; some
