Road 137 and dirt road toward Riley Lake.

Fringe of trees and shrubs, Populus tremuloides, Picea
glauca, Pteridium aquilinum, Salix spp., Prunus
pensylvanica, Cornus altemifolia. Level, open areas
maintained in early stage of regeneration of Populus
tremuloides for sharp-tail grouse habitat, edge of extensive
Sphagnum bog.
Shrub 3 m. tall, clumps of a few stems (previously cut or
burned off?), in a large thicket. Voucher for wood
specimens in Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw, the stem
collected 3.4 cm. in diameter, 9 years old. Inflorescence
erect, the branches red; fruit green.
