Liebre Mountains, lower southeastern flank of Bald Mountain, near
head of Liebre Gulch, due west of Sandberg. Near 34° 44’ 28.5”N
118° 43’ 01.9”W. T8N R17W NW 1/4 SW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec. 31.
Elev. 3980 ft.
Steep to relatively gentle slopes of decomposed granitic soils.
Extensive areas of grassland with Stipa cernua, Poa secunda,
Erodium cicutarium, Corethrogyne filaginifolia, Avena barbata,
Amsinckia tessellata, Claytonia spp. Lower slopes with a few
scattered Pinus sabiniana and Quercus lobata, channel of wash with
dense stands of Salix spp.
Annual, flowers yellow, lower portion of fruit mostly with
incomplete septum and therefore semiterete and inflated.
Occasional in grassland.
