facing Wisconsin River bluff.

Brushy old ridgetop field, somewhat prairie-like, becoming
overgrown with Rhus glabra, rare Elaeagnus umbellata,
Cornus racemosa.
Common, the smaller ones invading old prairie/field, the
larger ones to 2.5 m. tall along edge of young woods, 3.3
cm. in diameter, 18 years old; the older and larger plants are
senescent. Sap milky. Voucher for wood specimens in Kw,
Lw, MADw, RSAw. Flowers yellow-green, lightly and
pleasantly fragrant (1:00 P.M., sunny).
