RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Flora of the Liebre Mountains, Los Angeles County, California, U.S.A. Hydrophyllaceae Eriodictyon crassifolium Bentham var. nigrescens Brand "OLD RIDGE ROUTE": 3.95 miles N of its junction with Lake Hughes Road, W of Castaic Lake on ridge dividing Marple Canyon from Grasshopper Canyon. USGS 7.5' Whitaker Peak Quad.; T5N R17W, NE/4 NE/4 NW/4NE/4 section 10; elev. ca 2030-2070 feet. Somewhat broad S-facing draw between the road and a low ridge to the E. Slopes dominated by coastal sage scrub elements, including Salvia leucophylla (S. mellifera at the N edge of the site), Eriodictyon crassifolium var. nigrescens, Artemisia californica, Eriogonum fasciculatum var.foliolosum, with scattered Boccharis pilularis, Lotus scoparius, etc. Locally scattered shrubs to ca 23 dm tall; corollas large, lavender.
