north of San Bernardino, east side of Old Waterman
Canyon Road, west to south west-facing slope. Vicinity
of bridge over stream. Elevation about 2530 feet.
Canyon, gneissic metamorphic rock, pockets of humus
and sandy soil.
Chaparral, shrubland on dry slopes, transition to mesic
canyon forest. Dominants in chaparral: Eriogonum
fasciculatum, Ceanothus spp., Eriodictyum
trichocalyx. Dominants in mesic areas: Acer
macrophyllum, Juglans califomica, Umbellularia,
Alnus, Salix, Vitis. Locally common delicate prostrate
herb on moist slopes in shade at the base of rock cliffs;
flowers green. Leaves ginkgo-like, flabellate.
