NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN 03114865 STTET! _ KUUJGAH 198!7 Det. by Carl Epling, 1931. Stachys Chamissonis Benth. Linnaea 6: 8o. 1831. No. 8563, collected May 23, about two miles beyond San Mateo, San Mateo county, elevation 100 feet, on the Half Moon Bay road, growing in rich and damp, partly shaded places along the creek. It is a large plant with deep pink flowers. The de- termination is somewhat doubtful, as the pubescence on the angles of the stem is hardly made up of “rigid downcurved prickle-like hairs,” the leaves are ovate-lanceolate, acute, not “ovate, obtuse,” and the whorls are close, not “distant.” 'it has somewhat the appearance of S. californica. ------ ~ PLANTS OF CALIFORNIA * ' San Mateo County 8563 STACHYS CHAMISSONIS Benth.
