There is a clear intergradation between A. microphylla and A.
umbrinella. The plants in collection number 1431 were taken
from an area of about 3 meters radius, yet the bracts vary in color
from dark green-umber to rosy pink. The usefulness of
distinguishing species within such a population is doubtful. A.
microphylla is also related to A. parviflora, which is the only
other species in the area that can have rosy bracts. But the
* specimens I collected appear well marked and show no
confusing intermediate characters.
