PLANTS OF CALIFORNIA, USA Salvia mellifera Greene Lamiaceae Det.: S. R. Hill, (ILLS) 2001 SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY 34° 16.475* N. Lat. 117° 27.137’ W. Long. Vicinity of the San Andreas Fault, east side of Swarthout Canyon Road along Cajon Creek south of its crossing, San Bernardino National Forest, San Bernardino Mountains; west of Route 1-15. Elevation 2670-2720 feet. Margins of wash with boulders of metamorphic, granitic gneiss, schist substrate, well-drained sand, gravel. Margin of chaparral, shrubland, in creek wash. Dominants: Eriogonumfasciculatum, Platanus racemosa, Ceanothus spp., Quercus chrysolepis, Lupinus spp., Eriodictyum trichocalyx. Flowers very pale lavender-pink, foliage with pleasant sweet sage aroma; occasional soft woolly shrubby perennial 1 meter tall. Steven R. Hill 33420 25 April 2001 03094781
