SAN GABRIEL MTNS: Doe Rat and immediate
vicinity, situated between Graveyard Canyon and the E Fk
of Susanna Canyon, draining to the lower E Fk of the San
Gabriel River. Glendora 7.5' USGS quadrangle; T2N
R9W, NW/4 NW/4 section 23; elev. ca 2760-2840 feet.
Weak-wooded shrubs to ca 15 dm tall on the low
ridge just E of the flat; corollas pale blue.
Doe Flat consists of an open area dominated by
Elymus condensatus, Artemisia dracunculus, and various
other herbs such as Claytonia parviflora parviflora,
Nemophila menziesii, Dichelostemma pulchellum,
Lupinus bicolor microphyllus, Eriogonum cf. gracile,
Delphinium parryi, Achillea millefolium, Heterotheca cf.
fastigiata, this in turn surrounded by a ring of Amorpha
californica', then giving way to a mosaic of hard and soft
chaparral with Artemisia californica, Salvia mellifera,
Rhus trilobata, Eriogonum fasciculatum foliolosum,
Yucca whipplei parishii, Quercus durata gabrielensis, Q.
wislizeni, Ceanothus leucodermis, C. crassifolius, Rhus
ovata, Hazardia squarrosa grindelioides, etc.
