Santa Ana Mountains-Gavilan Hills region: Temescal Canyon,
terrace escarpment just south of DePalma Road between Indian Wash
and Horsethief wash. Near 33° 44' 29.1" N 117° 26' 19.7" W
Area of clay soil exposed on terrace escarpments, generally northerly
facing slopes.
Clay soil dominated by grasses, annual, and perennial herbs, including
Avena barbata, Bromus rubens, Stipa pulchra, Lupinus succulentus,
Allium munzii, Lasthenia califomica, Microseris heterocarpa,
Microseris douglasii ssp. platycarpha, Calandrinia ciliata,
Dichelostemma pulchellum, and Plagiobothrys collinus, with a few
scattered shrubs of Isocoma menziesii and Eriogonum fasciculatum.
Areas of nonclay soil with denser scrub of Artemisia califomica,
Adenostoma fasciculatum, Eriogonum fasciculatum, and Salvia
mellifera.
Annual, flower buds nodding, flowers pale yellow. Abundant in open
clay areas.
