Southern Santa Ana Mountains, San Mateo Canyon Wilderness
Area. Southwestern edge of the wilderness and adjacent Camp
Pendleton in lower San Mateo Canyon, near the confluence with
Devil Canyon. Elev. 400' - 500'. Mosaic of Adenostoma
fasciculatum - Ceanothus crassifolius chaparral on steep slopes,
with scattered stands of Quercus agrifolia woodland, and riparian
woodland erf Platanus racemosa, Salix lasiolepis, and Baccharis
salicifolia in canyon bottom.
Perennial herb, flowers lavender. Locally common on outcrops of
dark-colored metasedimentary rocks.
