Annual, locally common on granitic slope in
openings amid chaparral; associated with Adenostoma
fasciculatum, Quercus wislizeni frutescens, Yucca
whipplei caespitosa, Galium angustifolium,
Arctostaphylos glauca, Eriophyllum confertiflorum,
Salvia mellifera, S. columbariae, Lotus scoparius, etc.
Lower bracts ± foliose; involucres 4-5 mm long; perianth
segments subequal, rosy pink with rose midribs; anthers
blue.
