along Illinois River Road (Rt. 199), N side Illinois River.
Elev. ca. 1500 ft. Siskiyou National Forest. Klamath
Mountains (Siskiyou Mtns.) Ecoregion. Rather shallow
soil over and among serpentine outcrops and gravel. Dry
S facing slopes.
Open dry chapparal type woodland with Umbellularia,
Arctostaphylos, Ceanothus, Arbutus, Quercus,
Lithocarpus. Flowers pale purple to magenta; small
woody (ligneus) perennial 0.3 m tall, rounded, bushy,
with strong pleasant mint aroma. Stems very brittle; on
slopes.
